Features and Mode of Action
Paraquat is a non-selective, fast-acting quaternary ammonium herbicide. It is highly effective at destroying chloroplast membranes, rapidly halting photosynthesis and chlorophyll synthesis. This generates reactive oxygen species, leading to dehydration, cellular damage, and rapid weed death. Visible damage to treated leaves occurs within 2-3 hours of application.
It is a very fast-acting weedicide i-e the final death of the treated plants within 1-3 days. It is stable in the rain even within a few minutes after application.it control of a broad spectrum of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds. Once in contact with soil, it quickly becomes inactivated, making it safe for crops if applied 1-2 days before planting. Paraquat does not affect plant roots or soil-residing seeds, so weed regrowth can occur.
